Fact 1: Horoscope and Astrology were born in Egypt
Astrology and horoscope have played a main role in many civilizations. Their influence can be seen in every part of the world. It is said that the origins of Astrology, horoscope, and zodiac lie in the Greek society. However, a deeper look tends to prove that the roots for astrology and horoscope were laid much earlier than that, and the pharaohs of Ancient Egypt have much to do with this.
Then, the beginnings of actual astrology can be seen during the Old Babylonian period, during the second millennium. Somewhere around 1300 BC, the precursors of the individual birth horoscopes were formulated. These were merely predictions based on which month a child was born in. By this time the astral bodies have become quite significant at this point.
The Assyrian age has been a new stage in the progress of astrology. (1300 to 600 BC). The Assyrians occupied Babylon in 729 BC, and changed the Babylonians gods. The Assyrians overcame a long time problem - they created a consistent and accurate calendar. Star maps, constellations, astrolabes, and lists of stars were made.
The Assyrians found eighteen constellations. Later, by 600 BC, some of these would be combined and some would be deleted to form the twelve constellations of the zodiac. There exists a controversy over a possible thirteen constellation that has not been recognized by official astrology. But it’s most probable that a thirteen constellation will be soon recognized as an influent group of stars, in the astrological works. Much of astrology and daily horoscopes today are based on the relationships these constellations have with the seasons. The constellations should not be confused with the traditional signs of the zodiac, as the latter had not yet been created.

The next stage in the histories of astrology and horoscope is the New Babylonian period (600-300 BC). It was during this epoch that the signs of the zodiac and horoscope were invented. As of 1996, sixteen Babylonian horoscopes have been found, and contained overviews about love, romance, relationships, health and work such as nowadays’ predictions.
The Greeks then began their immense influence on astrology during the fifth and fourth centuries BC. Alexander the Great managed to spread the Greek way of life, and added mythology into astrology.
In 331 BC, Alexander the Great founded the city of Alexandria. This marks the creation of the Graeco-Roman era in Egypt’s past. Alexandria became one of the most famous citiesmixing the Greeks, Romans, Macedonians, Persians, Syrians, and Jewish cultures.
Written thanks to the influence of the Alexandria Library the Tetrabiblos compiled almost all of the astrological works up to that point. Only very little revisions have been made since then, and most of what we know as astrology or horoscope comes from this work.
Ptolemy was the one who compiled every knowledge about the art to predict. After Ptolemy, many astrologers came. After about AD 500, astrology died away for a while. It came alive again in the eighth century when Islam began practicing Hellenistic astrology.
In conclusion, it can be said that Egypt has played a major role in the development of astrology and horoscope, and aided its people to become innovators of new ideas that would last for centuries and even on into today.
