U.S. first lady. Born Elizabeth Ann Bloomer on April 8, 1918, in Chicago, Illinois. Betty Ford is notorious as the wife of President Gerald Ford and for her work on social issues.
She married Gerald R. Ford in 1948 and began her new vocation as helpful spouse to a politician after attempting being a dancer. When Gerald Ford became president in 1974, Betty Ford continued to proffer her sincere opinions on political matter. She actively supported for the Equal Rights Amendment.
After her husband left the White House in 1977, Betty Ford eventually had to face drugs as well as alcohol addictions. After getting sober, Betty Ford used her experiences to teach others about how to recover from drug and alcohol problems. Since then, she has spent much of her time supporting many health-related causes.
